IndraDyn S – MS2N synchronous servo motors extended by additional variant

Modern machine concepts require high-performance drive systems which are flexibly configurable. Consequently, Rexroth has extended their extensive range of the newly designed IndraDyn S synchronous servo motors of the MS2N series with maximum torque from 4 Nm to 360 Nm by force-ventilated and water-cooled variants.

The range of product line MS2N comprises numerous equipment variants. Innovative solutions such as the flexible single-cable and dual-cable connections with quick-look are amended by practical options for holding brake, degrees of protection and encoders in different performance classes, all available in single- and multi-turn. The digital encoder systems with ACURO®link interface allow for the single-cable connection with up to 75 m cable length and offer certified safety according to SIL2 PLd.

This extensive motor kit is now extended by additional functional options. From frame size MS2N07, the motors are optionally available with forced ventilation or water cooling and thus cover the range from 17.5 Nm to 214 Nm continuous torque at standstill with considerably increased power density and highest energy efficiency. Thanks to the additional cooling, new working points with higher continuous torque and higher motor power are achieved without having to change to larger or longer motors. With MS2N10, the fan is completely integrated into the motor and offers this performance advantage in the smallest installation space.

All fan motors offer degree of protection IP65, an integrated temperature sensor with certified intrinsic safety as well as optionally 115 V or 230 V connection voltage.

The cooling circuits of the water-cooled motors are completely designed in stainless steel and allow for the simple and reliable connection to most different machine cooling systems. Water-cooled motors keep the loss power away from the machine. This thermal decoupling allows for the realization of applications with highest requirements on the machining precision.

Two selectable flange accuracies, the sealing air option integrated ex factory and the “Standard” encoder class with Hiperface® interface offer additional configuration options. Despite cost-effective technology, the new encoder option with certified safety according to SIL2 PLd offers the full scope of functions of modern drive technology with motor data memory and real time processing of real motor measurements. The individual measurements of every single motor as well as the saturation and temperature data are stored in the memory of the relevant motor encoder and automatically processed by IndraDrive controllers. This information considerably increases the torque accuracy and reduces the tolerance interval in the ongoing operation to a fraction of present values. It is now possible for the first time to use the servo motor as reliable sensor and as data source and to thus realize new applications in the environment of Industry 4.0, such as condition monitoring, in a cost-effective manner, without additional components.
