I've been cleaning up around the shop lately and been finding lots of scrap carbide bits,( the guy before me NEVER threw anything away). I was wondering where you sell scrap carbide to get the best price. my boss told me if I want to go through and collect it and keep it seperate i could take it home.:rainfro:
does anyone on here buy carbide scrap? It wont be much, maybe a coffee can full.

Call around to local recyclers. You'd be amazed what they will buy if you have enough of it.

If it's not nailed down, it's mine.
If I can pry it loose, it's not nailed down.

I recently sold 46 pound of scrap carbide for $9 a pound. Thompson Machine in cincinnati, dayton, or columbus I'm not sure which. They sent me back a letter saying that they could no longer pay that price for carbide, I think the price went down to $7 a pound.

He told me to ship them via a prepaid mailer from the USPS. I shipped the 46 pounds of carbide to him for $8. I was just tickled to death about that. I wasn't sure I could trust that they would actually send me the money, but I looked them up and they seemed legit, so I took a chance.

Does anyone know who I might call in the Dallas area to sell my carbide? I live in Arkansas, and a place close to me offered $4.00 per pound. I then called a place close to Houston, and they said they might be able to pay over $10.00 per pound. Since I have a couple hundred pounds of carbide, I'll haul it down there. I'd like to sell it in Dallas, though, since my niece lives there.

    Thanks for any help.

    Duston
