    Help identifying unknown LEP stepper motor configuration

    Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone has any input on how to configure this stepper motor, they are from a microscope XY mechanized stage from LEP, or Ludl Electronic Products.
    I have no idea what product number is, however I contacted the company and they stated this is an old mechanized stage and there's no more support for it. The Controller version is the MAC1000, which predates the internet apparently...

    Here is what I know about the motors:

    -24V Unconfirmed, although all of the information on the new controller models provide 24V, but is incompatible because of connectors.
    -50 steps per revolution making it 7.2 degree step angle, however ((Ns-Nr)/(Ns*Nr))*360 = -1.8??? I need guidance on this.
    -4-wired making it bipolar, all the other pins in the DB-9 are unused.

    N_stator = 40 teeth, is it 8 * 5? See image below
    N_rotor = 50 teeth

    The pinout in at the end of the LAN cable is blue & white-blue are a coil, and brown & orange are the other coil.

    Finally I have a GRBL shield v5 and some L298N double H bridges laying around. I already tried connecting to both of these and it just goes crazy, at least on the L298N I managed to make it move "smoother" but is still not right, I had to connect the coils crossed from each other instead of connecting each coil to each of the sides on the L298, and the best stepsPerRev was 90-95 on the arduino using the Stepper.h library.

    Please see images below and let me know what you guys think. Or if you could provide any input thanks in advance.

    Please let me know if anyone has any questions or if I'm missing something else to make this stepper motor work with the grbl or the l298n

    EDIT: I think I just discovered how wrong I was, I managed to understand something new, the motor with the yellow tape is a Unipolar motor, and the stage motors are Bipolar. No wonder I couldn't get any real movement out of it.

    Now I need to understand how to make it work with the L298N or the GRBL shield.
    Additionally can someone give me some guidance on how the teeth of the stator and rotor, relate to steps per revolution. I mean is my formula correct?

    N_rotor = 50 teeth

    You can ignore the stator completely. What matters is the rotor. This is a 50 pole stepper motor. With a modern driver, that is 200 steps per rev (4 steps per pole). It might, or it might not, be possible to micro-step the motor.

    I think the motor should be a 4-phase unit - I THINK.The stator poles come in pairs.

    I THINK it should work OK as a unipolar motor, especially since it is so old. There are plenty of references on the web for how to hook this up. The chip vendors should also be able to provide this info.

    Cheers
    Roger
